    For 2d gens.
The fuel filter is typically not a scheduled maintenance item and just requires replacement if necessary. Delight consult with your local dealer for additional information apropos fuel filter maintenance.

The title is misleading and people are gonna come here looking for tips.
You've offered null in this mail.

Dont' forget - there are differences between the 1st & 2nd gen filters.

This is exactly the information I was looking for a few weeks agone :D.

My bf is a service tech at another dealer, so I asked him what routine maintenance items I was going to exist needing and which things he could help me with, one of the questions he asked was if my truck has a servicable fuel filter, I didn't know so I looked it up.

True, the divergence in 1st gen and 2d gen should have been noted.

And just FYI the fuel filter is located in the gas tank on 2nd gens.

It'southward located along the drivers side frame rail.
    *Disconnect battery
*Have fire extinquisher bachelor and ready just in example
*Take a bucket set to catch gas
*Disconnect fuel lines at both ends of the filter (be careful not to twist the lines). Use Lead equalizer or other penetrating lubricant if you have trouble getting the nuts loose. Be prepared, gas volition come out.
*Disconnect the hard lines from the body mounts (both sides). This will give you the necessary room to remove the filter

I read somewhere here on the forum for preventive future maintenance requirements- to refill your gas on second gen tacos earlier the fuel level gets to low considering the fuel pump is in the tank and uses the gas to keep itself cool. this would obviously exist more of import during the summer time...

here is the link to a replacement filter that does non cost $500 plus labor at the dealer and does non require the tank to be taken off in order to change, quite interesting

That's funny. I always get fuel when the calorie-free comes on. LOL

Seriously though, that's squeamish to know about the whole fuel filter thing. It'southward nice to know that you lot tin can replace it with an aftermarket part if necessary and information technology's not also expensive.

It really makes one wonder why Toyota made it into a combination unit pump/filter.

non to many, honey it the manner it is

WoW,, I totally missed your mail service. perhaps the filter will last longer from beingness immersed in the gasoline for most of its life span, excluding times of really depression level fuel atmospheric condition. A real pita to change though so I don't know if the good outweighs the bad. I do not read to many posts most people having to modify the 2nd gen filters so maybe it is non and then bad

  9. dodge has been doing it since the 90s, all the manufacturers are trending toward this, it sux but what tin can you do.its called planned obsolecense. this lowers the service life of the unabridged fuel organisation from the pump to the injectors. therfore they sell more than parts, also imagine the savings toyota had not having to purchase a ane dollar fuel filter for the millions of cars and trucks they brand every yr,not to mention having to pay workers to install them on the line.as far as the filter being part of the pump.. most cases thats crap. its usualy a screen that mounts to the lesser of the unit of measurement and its pretty coarse.its only ment to go along the larger particles out of the pump.i have taken autonomously several pump moduals, although not from a taco. i accept never found any other filter inside other than the one stated above.as far as the fuel cooling the pump. this is verry truthful and i effort not to let it get below 1/eighth tank. remember your pump sits in the lowest part of the tank called the sump department.this is also your reserve.similar when your truck reads empty yous nonetheless accept a picayune fuel left and its more enough to encompass the pump. you just dont want to run out, as the impellers inside the pump itself are usualy plastic blended.they burn upwards and yous lose pressure and volume.sorry about the long post lol

  12. Gas is much cleaner than it used to be, and what is the big deal about pulling a fuel tank every 250k miles or so? I would rather practice that than get to the one my 94 pickup had...it was mounted UNDER the fuel injection manifold and above the starter...It was either exercise information technology all past affect, or pull the starter outset, and equally I recall, the starter was much easier to reinstall with a helper on top.

On the other hand, I have to pull the tank and do serious dismantlement to change the fuel filter on my BMW R1150R Rockster. Far worse with the RT models.

Or my worst job recently, pull the steering knuckles on my 07 Dodge Ram 1500, including splitting the brawl joints and tie rods just to change out the "sealed for life" POS front end wheel bearings that failed Early and Oftentimes. Ideally, once the brake was removed, iii bolts would come out and the bearing associates should fall on your toes, but since it was a steel bearing assembly and a aluminum knuckle, there was severe corrosion and information technology had to go on the 20 ton shop press.

I generally change my fuel filter every 20k km (on my other vehicles)

We have very dirty fuel here. But seeing this post ... Makes me kind of unhappy that I tin't simply crawl nether the truck and supercede the $10 filter.

I wouldn't change from buying a Tacoma just because you can't admission a fuel filter.

I accept a 2005 with 172,600 miles. Haven't touched the the fuel filter. Admittedly zero issues from a clogged filter. Only repairs and so far: Cycle begetting final calendar week, U-Joint @ 120,000 miles, Battery @ 5 years. Show me whatever other manufacturer that you can go that quality out of. Every other vehicle I have owned, never made it that far without major repairs.

genxer:I believe your correct on the quality,BUT,whats next from a trusted automanufacturer. In that location is no "real" savings for Toyota or whatever manufacturer to pull this type of inconvience....a filter, does just that,it filters. If me or anyone else wants to practice some, in the future ,preventative maintenance, information technology is not an piece of cake task....now;only another way to suck more cash(if u take it) out of the consumer for no acceptable reason....for them yeah.... $$$$$.

    stuff and more than stuff

I have a 2007 Dbl Cab OR edition with 137,000 miles on information technology. Had just the same maintenance too the U-Joint. Only battery and bicycle bearing and no problems with fuel. I might install the Walbro 255 Pump and Kit for 2005+ Tacomas. It replaces the In-Tank Stock fuel pump with a Larger External Tank.
